The New York Times' Irresponsibility

From an AP report in the NYTimes yesterday:

Settler leader Daniella Weiss said the involvement of Palestinian policemen in the killing proved Israel's policy of allowing arms to reach forces loyal to Abbas was a grave error.

''Anyone with a head on his shoulders knows that giving a weapon to Arabs means giving a weapon for the murder of Jews. It has no other meaning,'' Weiss said

So, the arrest of PA policemen as involved in a terrorist shooting was covered only by use of a news agency.

On the other hand, Isabel Kershner, formerly of The Jerusalem Report, now the NYTimes' staffer, published today a wonderful, sympathetic human-angle piece on the release of Pal. detainees (here) all full of tears, dead mothers, rejoined families, etc. The usual mawkish stuff.

It even includes this at the end:-

Another Israeli gesture meant to strengthen Mr. Abbas has run into difficulties. Israeli officials announced Nov. 21 that they had approved the transfer of 25 armored personnel carriers from Russia to the Palestinian Authority, to bolster Mr. Abbas’s security forces in the West Bank.

But Israel objects to a new Palestinian request to outfit the vehicles with machine guns, according to Shlomo Dror, a spokesman for the Israeli Ministry of Defense. Israel’s agreements with the Palestinian Authority do not allow for machine guns, Mr. Dror said.

But nowhere is there a link drawn to the release of prisoners and increased Arab terror, including drive-by shootings perpetrated by Pal. policemen.

Don't you think that is irresponsible journalism?

Will we see soon in the pages of the Grey Lady an analysis of this phenomenon?

I don't think that it's something that will bother the paper at all.
