Petition to Stop State Dept. Muddling

The parents of Benjamin Blutstein, murdered in the bombing at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, July 31, 2002, Dr. Richard Blutstein and Dr. Katherine Baker of Harrisburg, PA, are petitioning against the intention of the U.S. State Department to take action in support of the Palestinian Authority -- against American victims of Palestinian Arab terrorism. They need help to oppose this.

As you will see from the petition below, the State Department is looking for ways to help the PA avoid paying court-ordered awards to terror victims who sued the PA in U.S. courts, and won. They are in effect siding with those who feel that the murder of civilians in Israel is somehow justifiable.

It is not.

Please let them know by return email, as soon as possible, if you have any additional names that can be added to this important petition once their permission uis obtained.

January 31, 2008

President George W. Bush
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue
Washington, DC

Dear President Bush:

As American citizens who have been injured in Palestinian Arab terrorist attacks, or whose family members have been murdered in such attacks, we are outraged that the State Department appears to be working with the Palestinian Authority to prevent terror victims from receiving payments mandated by U.S. courts.

We know that in some previous instances, the State Department has helped block attempts by terror victims to attach the Palestinian Authority’s assets in the United States. Now the PA has filed a motion to nullify the court-ordered awards, and the motion states that it has been filed “with the urging of the Department of State.” In addition, the PA has asked the State Department to file a “Statement of Interest” in support of its motion.

Such action by the U.S. government would be reprehensible.

It would be morally wrong to inflict further pain and suffering on American victims of terrorism by denying them what the courts have awarded them.

It would also undermine America’s war against terrorism, by sending a message to terrorists everywhere that they can get away with murder. That is a dangerous message, which will encourage more terrorism. The State department is siding with those who feel that the murder of civilians in Israel is somehow justifiable.

It is not.

We urge you to ensure that the State Department sides with the victims, not with the terrorists or their sponsors.

Sincerely,

I applaud the efforts of the petitioners and I pray for their success. But, for Israelis to continue to believe that they still have a friend in the U.S. government is, in my opinion, laughable. The U.S. – Israel ‘relationship’ can no longer be regarded as one of mutual interests; democracy vs. authoritarian, capitalist vs. fascist, secular vs. religious, moderate vs. extremist, or even good vs. evil. It’s not even any longer about strategic interests, for instance – oil. This relationship has been incredibly simplified. It’s about money and in rare cases, legacy
Since Carter, every past American president has been bathed in middle-eastern oil money either directly or indirectly. Not a single presidential library since Carter has been significantly sponsored without middle-east oil money. The past ones have it and continue to get it, and the present one and those currently pursuing the presidency most certainly have their eye on it. And they are no different than the current Israeli prime minister who has almost certainly been guaranteed a Nobel and a well padded offshore bank account (padded from the same oil wealth), if he can pull off the creation of a Palestinian state. And he will probably be no different than any future prime minister.
Unfortunately, until Israel is swimming in oil or something else equally valuable, this will not likely change.
As if it was not already clear enough, Israel is alone and betrayed and her loneliness will only increase after this next U.S. election, whoever is elected. There are many individual American’s who love and support Israel, and even a few organized groups. But there are many more, including many American Jews who don’t.
I believe that Israel has only one true friend left and He neither slumbers nor sleeps. I pray that Israel turns back to Him.
