Not Enough To Read Him, We Have To See and Hear Him?

You are already probably familiar with Gideon Levy's piece, The IAF, bullies of the clear blue skies, in which he wrote, inter alia:

Our finest young men are attacking Gaza now. Good boys from good homes are doing bad things...They set out to bomb the graduation ceremony for young police officers who had found that rare Gaza commodity, a job, massacring them by the dozen...They bombed a university that we in Israel call the Palestinian Rafael, the equivalent of Israel's weapons developer, and destroyed student dormitories. They dropped hundreds of bombs out of blue skies free of all resistance...Our excellent pilots are effectively bullies now...The real accounting must be with the decision makers, but the pilots are their partners...

...They are only doing their job, as the saying goes, only following orders like bombing machines...and almost no one pauses for a moment to ask whether all this is necessary, or unavoidable, or whether it contributes to Israel's security and moral image. Is it really the case that our pilots return safely to base, or are they in fact returning to them as callous, cruel and blind people?

This is a vicious piece, untrue, misinterpreted, deliberately perverted, warped by Levy's pro-Palestinian ideology and politics (and girlfriend - she's a Pal.) and what not.

But in Israel there is freedom of expression and of the press, well, at least for the Left and especially for Haaretz.

But there's alimit to that freedom and it was violated last night.

There I am, sitting and watching Channel One TV (sorry, I have no cable) and at 11 PM who but Gideon Levy appears on my screen and for next half-hour "interviews" (actually, badgers, interrogates, interrupts, demeans and what not) former Air Force General and hero Giora Romm about what he had written above.

Romm socked it to him but it was a "cultured" debate and they even shook hands at the end.

Who produced this crap? The Documentary Division of Channel ONe TV News of the Israel Broadcasting Authority.

I guess there is someone there who just loves Gideon Levy so much that not only must he read him in the newspaper but he must see and hear him as well on the television, and so 'must' we all.

But must we?
