Phosphorous Shell Indeed Used in Gaza...by Hamas

Hamas Fired Phosphorus Mortar Shell

A phosphorus mortar shell was among the 16 rockets and shells fired at Israel by early Wednesday afternoon. Gaza terrorists fired the shell at the Eshkol region. The shell hit an open area and did not cause injury.

Local officials expressed concern over the use of a new, more deadly weapon. “The potential danger is enormous,” one warned. The phosphorus shell is more dangerous than the usual rockets and mortar shells fired at the region, he explained.

More here on the controversy.

HAHAHA, I would laugh if it wasn't so tragic. Didn't you say that you used it to illuminate the sky and create the smoke? Why you changing your story now? Who do you think will believe you that Hamas has an advanced chemical weapon? The people behind your propaganda are just going plain stupid, man.

To galia the twit: There are two types of phosphorus shells. One of them is used primarily to lay down a smoke screen to advance into. The other sort is an anti-personnel ordinance that is intended to splash burning white phosphorus around to set fires and if it hits a person to burn through their flesh. It was highly popular among all concerned during the Lebanese civil war. Israel has used the smoke screen ordinance in this war. Hamas has now started to use the second. Are you really as stupid as your comment suggests? Review http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_phosphorus_(weapon) before you shoot your mouth off next time.

Both instances are prohibited by law in highly populated areas like Gaza. And you admit you use it. Hmmmmmm. The long exposure to phosphorus smoke has many dangerous effects(you can read of those in wikipidia). Israeli soldiers have special protective equipment against that, Palestinian civilians don't. You don't need to educate me on chemistry, i am a chemical engineer and quite familiar with handling chemicals.
In the wiki you can find all the countries that have this weapon and used it before, israel is one of them, Palestine is not. Lebanon civil war? nice try! Seriously what's your source of information? Some israeli press? And where do you suggest that Hamas got this advanced weapon from?

Galia, you're simply wrong.

From the UK Times: The Geneva Convention of 1980 proscribes the use of white phosphorus as a weapon of war in civilian areas, although it can be used to create a smokescreen. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said today that all weapons used in Gaza were "within the scope of international law".

there is no blanket ban under international law on its use as a smokescreen or for illumination.

Gaia, when was the last time you sent a note to Hamas or any Gazan blogger to please stop firing rockets at civilian areas:
"A 7-year-old boy and a woman were seriously wounded and four others sustained lighter injuries in Beersheba Thursday afternoon when two Grad rockets fired by Gaza terrorists hit the city. One of the rockets scored a direct hit on a car. Two people were moderately wounded and two were lightly hurt in the attack, and several people were treated for shock.

Medad,
To continue your citation there is a BUT:
However, Charles Heyman, a military expert and former major in the British Army, said: “If white phosphorus was deliberately fired at a crowd of people someone would end up in The Hague. White phosphorus is also a terror weapon. The descending blobs of phosphorus will burn when in contact with skin.”

You know you shouldn't be using it. Everyone now knows you do. The question is will you be able to get away with it as you did using it in lebanon in 2006? I pray you donot.
And i tell you about hamas. They will stop firing when there is a negotiated ceasefire and occupation is over.
I see you are blaming hamas for hurting palestinians and israelis?
So, you are completely innocent here? Get real, Medad.

"deliberatly fired at a crowd" but that wasn;t the case, was it. it was used in a military response to an immediate threat of force. do you think Hamsniks are playing chess?

and if you think that Hamas will ever abide by anything negotiated, then we really shouldn't be "talking". not only have they broken every agreement with Israel, which they don't recognize, but even all the agreements with Fatah, the PA, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, et. al.

Well, Hamas never abide by anything negotiated treaties because israel never abide by anything negotiated treaties. For example, look at how many illegal settlements they built in the West Bank after these negotiations. And the governments of Arab countries don't speak for palestinians (who are by the way corrupted and Israel is taking advantage of that). And the white phosphorus bombs weren't fired at a crowd? were you get you news from? from the IDF? why doesn't the IDF let journalists into Gaza so everybody would know the truth?

In the last 20 days we've heard so many excuses about all 1000 casualties in Gaza, that some of them are simply unbelievable, other are obvious lies, like the one with hamas using phosphorous weapons. Then you change the story. And you don't let the independent jornalists in to verify the information. Great job! You are professionals!
Of course you would never "deliberatly fire at crowds"! So why are so many people are reported with severe burns from phosphorous? Are doctors just making it up?

Hamas is a resistance movement. They fight for the rights of their people. They are not some egocentric monsters as you are trying to portray them. They love their country and they love their children. They want the future for their children. Yes, their techniques were not smart, suicide bombers and violence is not a solution. But this mentality is the result of occupation and abuse. If you understand that that is what you are dealing with, you should be able to find a common ground and negotiate peace. And i trust that Israel wants peace more than it wants rule and control. I trust that you want to be "living in the Land"

YMedad said...

Either you or I will get apoplexy from this so why not call it quits?

"Resistance"? "Not smart"? That's an understatement.

Galia, the Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Britherhood, founded in Egypt in the 1930s, an offshoot of the Mufti Haj Amein El-Husseini's pan-islamic movement (see his 1930/1 Jerusalem Conference, which has used religion in a corrupt fashion.

As for "occupation", Hamas can nor willit ever yield on the definition that any Jewish presence of a sovereing nature anywhere in this area is permitted. So all argumentation is useless.

And as for "settlements", a) it was never in the original Oslo accords except as a final status item. It was the Road Map that tried to link it to the stopping of terror but I for one and more than half of Israel will never agree to their relative or absolute equivancy so it's a non-starter.

The claim that Hamas will never accept the existence of Israel has proved equally misinformed, as Hamas leaders explicitly announce their intention to do just that in the pages of the Los Angeles Times or to any international leader or journalist who will meet with them

But as for Israel, i see that you don't want peace as much as you want land.
That explains the indiscriminate killings of Palestinians. So don't be hypocrit and just say as is!
