Harrumph for Harrop

Reported:-

Former U.S. Ambassador to Israel William C. Harrop believes the ongoing dispute between the Israeli government and the Palestinians is becoming a Greek tragedy.

“The Israelis are dominated politically by their right wing, the Likud Party and the Settler Movement. They are so determined to take over and maintain control of the whole West Bank that they are, in the end, going to destroy themselves.”

Harrop will speak at the University of Charleston on Jan. 16, beginning at 6:30 p.m., in the Erma Byrd Women Artists Gallery...During his 39 years as a diplomat, Harrop also was U.S. ambassador to Guinea, Kenya and Zaire and deputy assistant secretary of state for Africa. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.

Harrop, 81, believes “there is no way Jewish people in Israel can maintain all of the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea and also be a Jewish democracy. The Zionist dream has been to become a democratic Jewish state.”

Well, Israel was democratic before 1967 but did that stop the Arabs from attacking? And before any "occupation" or "settlements". What has that got to do with anything? By him, it's 'we lose if we do or lose if we don't'.
