So, Who Is A "Palestinian"?

There is an effort, independent and non-establishment it appears, to initiate foment encourage a "civic registration drive for elections to the Palestinian National Council (PNC), the supreme legislative body of the PLO".

Why the "Palestinian Authority" is not the body of subject, I don't know but I can guess that (a) they want to undemocratically exclude Hamas representation; (b) they want to take over the PLO for Hamas; (c) the "Palestinian Authority" isn't really the representative body but is a front for a terror group.

In any case and since we know democracy, civic responsibility, human rights and civil liberties are basically meaningless in that society, at present, I thought it interesting to find out who can vote.

Well, so, what is the answer to who is a "Palestinian"?

It is defined so -

Every Palestinian is entitled to register as a voter for PNC elections in the civic registration drive, if:

He/she is not already registered in the voter register of the PNA in the 1967 occupied Palestinian territory; and, He/she will be 18 years old at the time of the elections.

In line with relevant PLO and PNA laws, a person shall be considered Palestinian, if:

1. S/he was born within the borders of Palestine as defined during the British Mandate era, or was entitled to acquire the Palestinian nationality under the applicable laws at that time;
2. S/he was born in the 1967 occupied Palestinian territory;
3. One of his/her ancestors falls under the application of paragraph (a) or (b) above, irrespective of where s/he was born;
4. S/he is a spouse of a Palestinian.

In accordance, then, with (1),

I call upon all former Palestine Mandate citizens who are Jewish to register and, if I read correctly, every single Israeli to register since all of Israel was included in this definition: "the borders of Palestine as defined during the British Mandate era".

In accordance with (2),

I call upon all Jews who were born in Jerusalem to register even if you are now living abroad.

In accordance with (3),

I call upon all Jews everywhere to register.

In accordance with (4),

I call upon all non-Jewish spouses and their children who are/were married to Jews from anywhere and everywhere even if you did not convert to Judaism.

This could develop into something quite interesting, no?

________

And it's taking off.
